About the Event:

The 20th Anniversary Gala, held at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) in New York, celebrates the museum’s landmark accomplishments during its two decades as a cultural anchor in Lower Manhattan. The Gala features a cocktail reception, seated dinner, entertainment, and an exclusive preview of the highly anticipated exhibition Glittering World: Navajo Jewelry and the Yazzie Family. The Gala dinner will be held during American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month and celebrates the NMAI's first two decades in New York City.

Honoring | The Gala will launch the inaugural NMAI Award, which recognizes Native Americans who have excelled in their professional sectors and demonstrated exceptional commitment to Indian Country. Honorees are Patricia Michaels (Taos Pueblo), Arts & Design Award, and Randall L. Willis (Oglala Lakota), Business Award. The Gala also acknowledges the Founding Board Members of the NMAI in New York.

Highlights | The Gala provides an exclusive preview of Glittering World, a signature exhibition presenting 300 pieces of stunning Navajo jewelry created by the acclaimed Yazzie family of jewelry designers and artists from New Mexico. The Gala will also feature the "What Are You Wearing?" live social media experience featuring jewelry attendees are wearing at the Gala!

All proceeds benefit the museum's free public education programs.
