The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is located on the western bank of the Grand Traverse Bay. According to the U.S. Census, the reservation and off-reservation trust land has a population of 762 and is 65 percent Indian and 35 percent non-Indian.

The Grand Traverse Band Tribal Court consists of the Tribal Appellate Court, with three Appellate Judges and the Tribal Court, with one full-time Chief Judge and on part-time Associate Judge.The Tribal Victim Assistance Program is a grant funded program that assists all victims of crime which occur in the six county service area, which include Benzie, Charlevoix, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Manistee and Antrim Counties. The Coordinated Community Response (CCR) Project is a grant funded program that assists victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking who reside in the six county service area. CCR Project Coordinator is available to assist with transportation, advocacy, petitioning for a personal protection order through any of the courts within the six county service area, and limited financial assistance.

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians received a $448,511 grant from OVW in 2016 to support the exercise of SDVCJ.
