Abstract: This document contains references to the historic and current trauma experienced by American Indian and Alaska Native youth and may be difficult for some readers. Despite the many challenges confronting tribal youth that are detailed in this report, the resilience that Native peoples have demonstrated for millennia makes us hopeful for the future.
While this brief focuses on juvenile justice systems, this is one of many systems that must work in coordination to build and strengthen equitable and local supports for vulnerable Native children in their communities. NCAI is committed to working to cultivate and nurture strategies and policies that will allow Native children to thrive.
