WASHINGTON, D.C. | The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) is honored to be a guest of the Southwest Region tribal nations for the 2019 Annual Convention & Marketplace on October 20-25, 2019 at the Albuquerque Convention Center, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
As NCAI celebrates its 76th year of serving the broad interests of tribal nations, this year’s Annual Convention theme: Sovereignty in Action reflects the power of tribal nations convening as a congress to protect and advance tribal sovereignty.
This six-day event features a robust mix of key assembly presentations, cultural events, receptions, and more. Topics of discussion will include core issues areas such as: civic engagement, climate action, education, economic development, food sovereignty, health, infrastructure, juvenile justice, treaty and trust rights, and more. Key sessions include:
Tribal Broadcast Radio and Broadband Spectrum Workshop – NCAI is partnering with the Federal Communications Commission and Native Public Media to offer a full-day, two-part workshop on Sunday, October 20, 2019. Sessions will explore the importance of broadcast radio to tribal lands and the benefits that flow from tribally owned radio stations, information about developing advanced communications networks on tribal lands, with a particular focus on current tribal broadband spectrum opportunities.
Train-the-Trainer Workshops – NCAI is proud to partner with Bank of America and Google to present three "Train-the-Trainer" workshops where attendees can come and learn skills to take back with them to their communities to train their fellow community members in key areas. Convention highlights:
NCAI Elections: This year is the bi-annual election year where candidates from around Indian Country will campaign for the seats on NCAI’s Executive Board. Elections will occur on Thursday, October 24, 2019, 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Please visit the Membership page for eligibility requirements.
Gala Banquet – NCAI is hosting an evening of delicious food, warm company, and stellar entertainment with Grammy-nominated performer Radmilla Cody (Navajo Nation) headlining this special event. This will be an evening you won't want to miss! Tickets available at the on-site Registration Kiosks.
