A New Era for NCAI.org

Published on Apr 16, 2012

For nearly seventy years the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) has been the unified voice for Indian Country. As the institution which brings together tribal nations, citizens, leaders, advocates, and organizations, NCAI has also served as a central point for information that serves our people, our communities, and our future.

From its early days of type-written proceedings, to fax broadcasts and an evolving online presence, we have worked to employ the best tools to strengthen Indian Country. The re-launch of NCAI.org is another important moment in our history.

What You'll Find

The new NCAI.org aims to provide the rich base of information, resources, and history that have defined NCAI online, along with improved navigation, dynamically updated content, and expanded new media capabilities.

NCAI advocates on the issues that matter to our members - and our new site organizes these issues so that you can find the information you need quickly and easily. Learn more about the policy issues NCAI works on, the initiatives and campaigns we’re engaged in, and search our Resources to easily find NCAI resolutions, testimony & speeches, and policy papers.

The diversity of Indian Country is reflected in our Tribal Directory, listing the federally-recognized tribal nations, along with state-recognized tribes, regional intertribal associations, national Indian organizations, NCAI Associate members, and more.

Much of NCAI’s work stems from our conferences and events, so our new event section details everything you’ll need to know to prepare and participate in NCAI’s meetings. Our national events listing features important events around Indian Country, in addition you'll find a comprehensive listing of government consultations and youth-focused events.

Continuing to Evolve

The launch of the new NCAI.org is just the start of a new era for NCAI’s work online.  In the coming months, we’ll be launching our new event and membership registration systems, increase our online educational opportunities with more webinars, expand our About Tribes section, expand access to our archives, and continue our efforts to tell the story of NCAI’s work through new media.

As our online efforts evolve, NCAI will continue to bring together people at our events, impact policy through our advocacy work, and provide the tools and resources our members need to advance and protect tribal sovereignty.

Your feedback is critical to improving the resources offered on our site and we encourage you to send us your ideas and suggestions via our Feedback Form.

W.K. Kellogg Foundation Support

NCAI is proud of our long-standing relationship with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as a key ally and investor in our work. The foundation's partnership in building our online capacity and strengthening our communications efforts are critical contributions to the future of Indian Country and the new NCAI.org is a direct result of that support.

In the 2011 State of Indian Nations Address, NCAI President Jefferson Keel stated, “We stand at the beginning of a new era for Indian Country, and for tribal relations with the United States… But this new era is defined by what we, as Indian nations, choose to do for ourselves.”

NCAI.org is one of many ways NCAI will usher in this new era, and we hope you’ll find our tools and solutions central to your efforts to protect tribal sovereignty and strengthen Indian Country.
