NCAI Honors Distinguished Leaders at 12th Annual Leadership Awards Banquet

 The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) will honor six leadership award recipients for their extraordinary service to Indian Country.

 

Their exceptional commitment and dedication has provided an array of opportunities in the areas of: economic development, justice, health, and Indian affairs. Their contributions provide an invaluable service in promoting sovereignty and government relations.

"We are proud to recognize those that have exceeded the expectations of Indian Country though their noble efforts" said NCAI President Jefferson Keel. "Their support and partnership with NCAI allows us to further our advocacy and resources to tribes across the United States."
 

Native American Leadership Award

Elouise Cobell
Blackfeet Tribal Member and Lead Plaintiff in Cobell v. Salazar
In appreciation of years of work as spokesperson, inspiration, and moral force behind the effort to restore justice to American Indian trust account holders.


Public Sector Leadership Award

Dr. Stephen Cornell
Co-Director, Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development and Director, Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy, University of Arizona

Professor Joseph P. Kalt
Co-Director, Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development
In appreciation for groundbreaking research and technical assistance in partnership with and for the benefit of Native Nations.


Governmental Leadership Award

Dr. Eric Broderick
Deputy Administrator for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
In appreciation of leadership at SAMHSA and long-term commitment to address the health needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives.


Congressional Leadership Award

Congressman Xavier Becerra
U.S. House of Representatives
In appreciation for his firm commitment to tribal sovereignty and continued representation of Indian Country in the U.S. House of Representatives.


Special Recognition Award

Marie Howard
Staff Director House Resources Committee - Office of Indian Affairs
In appreciation for her critical support to Indian Country and tireless efforts throughout your career and for being a lifelong warrior for Indian Country.
