NCAI Executive Committee Amends Bylaws to Allow for Scheduled Elections to Take Place Virtually at the 78th Annual Convention
On August 13, 2021, the NCAI Executive Committee met to discuss the need to convene the Congress at the Annual Convention and hold elections in accordance with the NCAI Constitution. To ensure that the Annual Convention may be held safely, the Executive Committee exercised its authority to amend the Bylaws to allow the Administrative Board to make reasonable modifications to credentialing requirements, quorum requirements, voting requirements, voting procedures, and elections as necessary to carry out business in a virtual environment. With the decision, NCAI is happy to announce that the 78th Annual Convention will take place virtually on October 7-14, 2021.

NCAI Administrative Board Approves Modifications to Allow for Virtual Elections
On September 10, 2021, the NCAI Administrative Board met to discuss the need to convene the Congress at the 78th Annual Convention and hold elections in accordance with the NCAI Constitution. To ensure that elections may be held fairly, safely, and securely, the Administrative Board exercised its authority to approve reasonable modifications to credentialing requirements, quorum requirements, voting requirements, voting procedures, and elections as necessary to carry out business in a virtual environment.
Most significantly, to accommodate virtual elections, voting will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, and will end at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday, October 14, 2021.

NCAI Elections Chair Memorandum on Virtual Elections
On September 17, 2021, the NCAI Elections Committee Chair released a memorandum detailing critical information about the virtual voting process that will take place during the NCAI 78th Annual Convention, which will be held on October 7-14, 2021. Please review the memorandum to learn about:
Who is eligible to vote;
When voting will take place;
How voting will take place virtually;
Who is eligible to run for elected positions; and
How campaigning will function during the Convention.

The resolution deadline is Monday, September 20, 2021 at 11:59 pm EDT. Late resolutions may be submitted until Tuesday October 12, 2021 at 12:00pm EDT and will be considered if they are national in scope and emergency in nature. Late resolutions will be referred to the NCAI Executive Committee to be determined if the resolution is national in scope and emergency in nature.
Lyn Risling
Lyn Risling’s work reflects the renewal and continuation of cultural traditions and the natural world of her tribal peoples, the Karuk, Yurok and Hupa. She is a descendant of ceremonial and cultural leaders and activists, such as her late grandfather, David Risling Sr. and late father, David Risling Jr. Her family has long been involved in traditional tribal arts as well as more contemporary art forms. Lyn has been involved in many aspects of her cultures, such as revival and participation in tribal ceremonies and other traditions. Lyn received a BA in art from UC Davis and later a Masters from Humboldt State University where she worked while raising her children.
