The National Congress of American Indians and its Tribal Food Sovereignty Advancement Initiative (TFSAI) will hold a webinar on Thursday, February 18, 2021 to release its new case study of the San Carlos Apache’s food sovereignty approach.

Developed in partnership with the San Carlos Apache Tribe, the case study details how the San Carlos Apache, seeking to reconnect the Western Apache people to the natural world and the physical, cultural, and spiritual sustenance it provides, has spent the past three decades exhaustively documenting the diversity, expanse, and nutritional benefits of the pre-reservation Apache diet.

Through the tribal nation’s Traditional Western Apache Diet Project and sharing informational and educational resources across the reservation and beyond, the San Carlos Apache is training and guiding tribal members to embrace their traditional foodways as an irreplaceable pathway to individual, family, and community wellness and prosperity.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. EST, and will feature key representatives for the San Carlos Apache discussing the nation’s food sovereignty efforts and answering questions from participants. The panelists include:

Twila Cassadore, Project Assistant, Traditional Western Apache Diet Project
Seth Pilsk, Botanist, San Carlos Apache Forest Resources Program
