AIHEC has grown to 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) with more than 75 sites in the United States and one in Canada. Each of these institutions was created and chartered by its own tribal government for a specific purpose: to provide higher education opportunities to American Indians through programs that are locally and culturally based holistic, and supportive. (Northwest Indian College located on the Lummi Reservation with six sites located on reservations located in WA and Idaho, serves an average of 1,400 students from 125 different tribes in 2013/14 and offers AA and BA Degrees and meets all the same certification requirements as a State College.).
