About the Event:

The Inaugural Ball at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian

Monday, January 21, 2013 - 7:00pm

On the occasion of the inauguration of the President of the United States, join the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in the celebration. Just steps from the U.S. Capitol, the museum is the perfect venue to recognize and acknowledge our Native Nations' engagement in the governance of the U.S. and their defense of tribal self governance and self determination.

The funds raised from the NMAI’s Inaugural Ball will allow the Museum to produce additional programs, help us correct misconceptions about Native history, and affirm the relevance and impact of Native Americans, past and present. Over the next several years, the Museum will open a series of major exhibitions that feature topic like treaties and boarding schools. The  National Education Initiative will launch and influence what schools teach about Native Americans in elementary and high schools. With you support, the NMAI can become the national platform for the discussion of topics relevant to Tribal Nations, both in the Museums in Washington, D.C. and New York and in communities across the country.
