Native Nations Business Summit to Promote Entrepreneurship in Indian Country

About the Event:

Bismarck, ND – The Native Nations Business Summit will be held September 25-26, 2012 at the Seven Seas Hotel in Mandan, ND. 

“We’re looking forward to this event – created by Native Americans, for Native Americans – to help build a culture of economic development and entrepreneurship in our Native communities,” says Leslie Morsette, executive director of the Indian Business Alliance of North Dakota.  Key features of the event include:

• Stories of success from other Indian business owners
• Networking with key leaders in tribal economic development, tourism and job creation
• Discussing ideas for strengthening tribal communities with economic development throughout the Great Plains

Keynote speakers include Gary “Litefoot” Davis and Professor Robert J. Miller.  Davis, a successful entrepreneur, hip-hop star and president of the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development, will talk about strengthening the spirit of entrepreneurship in Indian Country. Miller of Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, OR will discuss “Reservation Capitalism” and how the business practices of historic tribal communities influence commerce today. 

“The Indian Business Alliance of North Dakota has brought together some of the best resources in the country for supporting and growing business in our Native American communities, both on and off reservations,” says Scott Davis, executive director of the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission.

Event cost is $85 per participant, with an early bird rate of $75 valid until September 18.  On Thursday, September 27, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Federal Reserve Banks of Minneapolis and San Francisco will present a FREE training session titled “Uniform Commercial Codes: Bringing Business to Indian Country” to help those involved with tribal commerce ensure their transactions are secure, regardless of variations in tribal commercial law.  This popular training session has been held in major cities nationwide and is coming to North Dakota for one day only, immediately following the Native Nations Business Summit.  There is no cost to attend the one-day UCC training, but advanced registration separate from the business summit registration is required.
