t - &ldquo\;Asset Building: A Pathway to Economic Self-Determination&rdquo\
; provides an opportunity for Native asset building practitioners to networ
k and get up to date information on self-sufficiency initiatives taking pla
ce in Indian Country. Throughout the Summit participants will have an oppor
tunity to:
\n &bull\; To excha
nge ideas about asset building in Indian Country
\n &bull\; To Identify key problem areas and barriers th
at prevent families from achieving self-sufficiency
\n &bull\; To highlight best practices in self-suffic
iency and asset building
\n &b
ull\; To develop strategies and action items that will support Native resid
ents as they move on their path toward self-sufficiency
\n &bull\; To network and connect with individual
s representing a broad spectrum of entities such as national intermediaries
\, state funding agencies\, lenders\, federal agencies\, financial regulato
ry\, entrepreneurs\, for-profits\, tribes\, and Tribally Designated Housing
Entities (TDHEs)

ps will address\; financial education\, credit counseling\, rental readines
s\, homeownership and child savings accounts. Workshops will incorporate ke
y learning strategies to:

bull\; Access key financial education programs to help families make inform
ed financial decisions
\n &bul
l\; Gain an understanding of the impact that policies have on a family and
community economic success
\n
&bull\; Identify resources available to fund asset building. Presenters wil
l address a wide mix of topics that focus on youth\, families\, culture\, a
sset preservation
\n &bull\; D
escribe what self-sufficiency means and visualize what self-sufficiency cou
ld mean for their residents and their TDHEs
\n &bull\; Explore the role of financial education as the fou
ndation to asset building
\n &
bull\; Incorporate asset building concepts and tools into their self-suffic
iency programming.
